I have a very old computer at home and I therefore try to find a linux distribution that can get the most out of it. I consider to try a source-based distro like Gentoo, not Gentoo itself because from my experiences I found it too time-consuming to get things to work. Struggling and searching on distrowatch I found a distro I never heard about, namely "Lunar Linux". It is completely source-based but with the benefit of having an easy package manager and maintenance comparing to Gentoo, which is perfect!
One can read more about Lunar Linux here: www.lunar-linux.org/
Time to install this and hopefully I will come back with a couple of screenshots

Mass Effect 3 via Origin works in GNU/Linux!
Hi,
After I manage to launch Origin with Wine, the next step was to launch a game within Origin. I tried Mass Effect 3, and unexpectedly, I was able to launch it directly! See pictures below.
The game performance is more or less playable. Of course, you cannot enjoy the max settings without any lags, but how much do you expect from a game and company that do not support GNU/Linux in any way?

Get EA Origin to work with Wine
Hi all,
I have a couple of games in Origin that I want to play in GNU/Linux, however, the first big problem encountered is how to get Origin to work with Wine. Many users have been able to install Origin and start the GUI-front, but few have been able to actually download any games!
Now, a guy nicked "Heiko" at WineHQ has finally been able to construct a hack as a work-around to the download issue. The patch can be found here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31438.
To make this work, we need the source-files of Wine that can be found here: http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/wine/source/1.5/. I used version 1.5.27, but it should not matter w
The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition (GOG) on GNU/Linux
So, another game. This time, one of my favorites: The Witcher 2. If you liked the first Witcher, you should really really play Witcher 2. I'm not gonna talk so much about the contents of the game, there are a lot of sites for this. I'm gonna talk about how you install this on GNU/Linux.
First of all, I use the version from GOG http://www.gog.com/, i.e. enhanced edition with patch 2.1. Now, this version is pretty difficult to install, so I try to be as informative as possible.
(1) Create a new WINEPREFIX. I create a fresh new WINEPREFIX for each game I install, hence avoiding to mix several games with one WINEPREFIX which may arise a lot of
Dear Esther on GNU/Linux
Dear Esther is a mysterious uncommon adventure game. You are on a island trying to discover what is going on by walking through a very beautiful environment followed by a powerful music background. It is not a typical game with object interactions but rather on the story whilst you walk deeper into the island. The game is a bit scary, mysterious and exciting at the same time and I really recommend it.
Now how do you install it on Gnu/Linux? Well, easy, just follow my steps. Assuming you bought the game with non-steam from http://dear-esther.com/?page_id=789:
(1) Create a new WINEPREFIX like this in a terminal by using winetricks:

Hello I'm curious about lunar linux too...want to try out in the future. But one quick question...have you used gentoo before? If so how would you rate gentoo vs lunar linux? Thanks.
